Why is it so rare to find people that banter back with you on the dating apps?

So I generally like a little back-and-forth banter on the apps before I go on a date with someone. It helps me learn if we share a similar sense of humor and it keeps the conversation interesting and enjoyable. Granted, I really don’t get a lot of matches at all, but the ones that I do get generally won’t banter with me. Not sure if it’s disinterest or anxiety or what. I just find it really odd. They’ll generally write ‘lol’ or ‘haha’ and continue with a serious conversation.
